I lived in NYC for almost a decade and I often find myself missing little things that are hard to explain to people who’ve never lived there. Things like turning on the fire hydrant and playing in the water on a hot day, sitting on brownstone steps and watching kids play double dutch, playing checkers in the park.
THIS video? THIS is one of those things I miss so much. At any point in time, you could be having the worst day, and then something like this happens, on a random subway car. NYers always get a bad rap about being mean or rude. To that, I usually respond by saying, “They’re just in a hurry and you’re in the way.” (Which is usually true!) But things like this remind me of why NYC will always be the best place in the world.

Had a really tough week and tonight I was the subway and some guy walks between train cars, shirtless, bumping a speaker. I wasn't in the mood for Showtime particularly. But sometimes people and life surprise you and a little magic happens. pic.twitter.com/S7o4282SOS
