It’s been a couple weeks, so I wanted to give you all a little update on my journey for GOOD sleep with Dr. Tony Soileau at Louisiana Sleep Solutions.
Back in June, I took to social media to share my sleep analysis from my FitBit. It started a conversation I didn’t even realize I needed to have!
A friend asked me a simple question, “Hey Danita, do you think you could have sleep apnea?”
In short, yes.
So, I began the process to find out! I made an appointment with Louisiana Sleep Solutions, and thus, began my journey to find GOOD sleep.
If you missed PART 1 of my journey, catch up here.
After I received the analysis from my sleep study, I awaited a diagnosis.
DIAGNOSIS: SLEEP APNEA!
As expected, I have sleep apnea. Now, there are a few ins and outs as to why and how we got to that conclusion, but, in a nutshell, I have sleep apnea.
What does that mean? That means that I stop breathing at different points during my sleep. It also means that I can never achieve the very important Phase 3 sleep, the GOOD sleep.
LADIES: DYK that most apnea research hasn’t included women, so diagnosing women is harder? If you think you might be affected, don’t back down until you receive the treatment you deserve.
What if I told you that ALL of the following things are symptoms of Sleep Apnea:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness.
- Loud snoring.
- Observed episodes of stopped breathing during sleep.
- Waking during the night and gasping or choking.
- Awakening in the morning with a dry mouth or sore throat.
- Morning headaches.
- Heartburn and acid indigestion.
- Trouble focusing during the day.
- Mood changes, such as depression or being easily upset.
I could keep adding symptoms, but you get the idea. If you are dealing with any of the above, consider making an appointment today.
Now What?
A SOLUTION
The solution utilized at Louisiana Sleep Solutions is a Prosomnus Oral Device.
An easy way to describe it? It’s like a mouth guard you’d wear if you grind your teeth, almost like a football players mouth guard or maybe like dental aligners.
Once I was diagnosed, another appointment was scheduled to take scans and x-rays for my customized device.
NOTE: It’s NOT a CPAP machine. There are NO hoses or wires. Nothing to lug around. No need to have a power source.
Did you read that? IT’S NOT A CPAP MACHINE!!!
The device I’ll be using is the size of your palm. You insert it when you go to sleep, and you let it do what it does.
That’s it!
Now, I wait! I’m tracking my device and it looks like I’ll have it in my hands next week!
I’ll keep you guys updated!
In the meantime, make YOUR appointment NOW at Louisiana Sleep Solutions.
Be sure to tell ’em that Danita sent ya!
