School Closures and Early Dismissals for Monday, January 8, 2024

Acadiana schools that will be closed or having early dismissal Monday, Jan. 8 due to potentially dangerous weather and flash flooding risks.

This will be updated as more announcements are made.

Lafayette Parish

The dismissal times are as follows:

For My Child Learning Center in Lafayette will be dismissing at 12 p.m.

11:30 a.m. Dismissal Time-high schools, including:

David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy
Lerosen Preparatory School
12:15 p.m. Dismissal Time-All elementary schools, excluding

Alice Boucher Elementary School
J. Wallace James Elementary School
Truman Early Childhood Education Center
This does include:

Milton Elementary /Middle School

Myrtle Place Elementary French Immersion Academy

Early College Academy (ECA), No buses running

SOAR Program, No buses running

1:00 p.m. Dismissal Time-All middle Schools, including the following elementary schools:

Alice Boucher Elementary School

J. Wallace James Elementary School

Truman Early Childhood Education Center

Other essential dismissal notices include:

Edward J. Sam Accelerated School – the second session is canceled today

W. D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center – students attending the second half of the day will stay at their base school

Lafayette Christian Academy will follow an early dismissal schedule on Monday, Jan 8. Students will follow their Friday dismissal times.

Buses will be at the schools listed above at the dismissal times to bring students home. Parents can pick up those students who are car riders, but will not be allowed to pick students before the designated dismissal time.

Students attending after care will be dismissed at the times listed above. People are advised to make those adjusted arrangements.

Afternoon activities, such as after-school care, tutoring, sporting events and extracurricular activities have been canceled.

All locations of Sugar ‘n Spice Children’s Academy will close at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Vacation Station at Sugar ‘n Spice will provide before-school transportation as normal and will also provide after-school transportation for all elementary and middle schools dismissing at 12:15 p.m. and 1:00 pm. Vacation Station will not provide after school transportation for Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy.

First Baptist Christian School in Lafayette will close at 11:30 a.m.

Iberia Parish

All Iberia Parish schools will dismiss at mid-day beginning with middle and high schools at 11:30 a.m. and elementary school following at 12:30 p.m. All after school activities for Monday will be canceled.

Epiphany Day School in New Iberia will be having early dismissal at 11:30 a.m.

Acadiana Christian School New Iberia will be closed at 12 p.m.

Highland Baptist Christian School in New Iberia will dismiss school at 12:15 p.m.

St. Landry Parish

The St. Landry Parish School District announced they will close district and school office Monday.

The scheduled site-based professional development for faculty and staff have been canceled along with any school related activities.

Opelousas Catholic School will have early dismissal at 12 p.m.

St. Martin Parish

All St. Martin Parish schools will dismiss students early Monday.

Students will be dismissed at 12 p.m.

All afternoon activities have been canceled, according to Superintendent Frederick Wiltz.

St. Mary Parish

St. Mary Parish public schools will be dismissing early.

Middle and high schools in St. Mary Parish will be dismissing early at 12 p.m. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Bus routes will be running accordingly. All after-school activities and events are canceled.

V. B. Glencoe Charter School will have early dismissal for Pre-K- 12th grade at 12:30 p.m.

Vermilion Parish

School offices will close at 11 a.m. Monday. The central office will be closing at 11:30 a.m.

Students are set to return at regularly scheduled times on Tuesday, Jan. 9 to begin the semester.

Acadiana Christian School Abbeville will close at 12:30 p.m.
